This fine bone china mug is from the V&A collection. The Fruit design sees beautiful blues across a white canvas: pale leaves and rich blueberries decorate this stunning piece. The pattern curves around the entire mug with decoration also across the elegant handle, with a thumb rest for added comfort. The illustration is adapted from a design by William De Morgan (1839-1917) for Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. De Morgan experimented first with stained glass and then in the 1860s with ceramic production. His workshops moved from Chelsea to Merton Abbey in Wandsworth, London, to nearby Fulham. He spent many years acquiring the expertise to fire lustre glazes in the manner of 14th- and 15th-century ceramics from the Islamic world and Moorish Spain: blue, green and purple were favoured colours, under the same influence. This illustration was found in the archives of the world”s leading museum of art and design: the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. The V&A archives hold millions of extraordinary artefacts, including glass, textiles, photography, graphics, jewellery and fashion, offering a wealth of inspiration for exquisite V&A heritage designs with a fresh contemporary twist.Capacity: 230ml. The V&A fine bone china mugs are available in beautiful printed boxes.
